Biography

Steven Miller is a Grammy winning American producer, arranger, mixer and executive whose success has spanned almost every sector of the music business.

As vice president of Windham Hill Records, his ambient sound helped create landmark recordings such as Michael Hedges’ "Aerial Boundaries," George Winston’s "December," and Mark Isham’s "Vapor Drawings." Genre defining work with many of the other label artists resulted in millions of additional units being sold, which transformed the tiny independent label into an international phenomenon. From there, Steven went on to found the Hip Pocket/AM and RCA/Novus record labels.

He was also one of the very first producers to fully embrace digital recording technology. During the transition years from vinyl to compact discs, his recordings were the first choice of hi fi stores when demonstrating the CD’s extended dynamic range. In recognition of his work, Steven was appointed to the board of the RIAA’s Compact Disc Group.

During that same period, he also worked with Apple Computers to create the musical components for their new products, IIe, Lisa, and the groundbreaking Macintosh.

Following an executive A&R stint at RCA Records, Steven indulged his passion for wine by traveling the world and developing businesses in that industry.

Upon his full time return to music, he has worked independently with a wide range of artists in multiple genres.

Singer-Songwriters include Suzanne Vega, Dar Williams, John Gorka, Paula Cole, David Broza, and Patty Griffin.

And In partnership with Allen Sides and Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood, he created Ocean Way Drums - an award winning product line of plugins that provide professional tools for musicians.

Steven is currently conducting seminars and is pleased to share his wealth of knowledge as a mentor and career coach.

As one of the very few successful music industry figures whose experience spans production arranging, engineering, mixing, technology development, A&R, label management, marketing, and promotion - Steven presents a unique and highly informed overview of what it takes to be successful in a fluid, constantly evolving industry.
